Tuberculosis Accomplishments

• Exclusive use of Directly Observed Therapy in treating active tuberculosis results in >95% treatment completion rates for active cases and reductions in drug-resistant tuberculosis- an excellent result.

• Collier County has a model program in providing DOT (Directly Observed Therapy) to all high risk patients with Latent Tuberculosis Infection.

• Collier County Health Department has the first active program in providing DOT through the use of technology. Through the use of real time videophones, more clients are able to be placed on DOT. This assures that the medication is taken, resulting in more clients completing therapy and less potential for resistance to develop.
